TAVARES WOMAN GIVES ‘GRINCH’ DOG A FOREVER HOME
LEESBURG — The dog that played Max opposite of the Grinch recently at the Lake Square Mall in Leesburg now has a Hollywood worthy story with a happy ending to make anyone’s heart grow three sizes this holiday season.
Max’s saga started when the Lake Square Mall decided the Grinch should attend a Saturday morning story time in November, and later in the day, the Festival of Trees. Anna Marie Chwastiak, director of marketing at the mall, thought finding a Max at a shelter to play the part of the Grinch’s dog would be a good way to promote pet adoptions.
After scouring shelter websites for the right dog, she found the perfect Max at The Animal League.
“When I met her, she had the look of Max and a lovable, upbeat personality. It was a long process, but as soon as I met her, I knew she was my dog.”
The dog’s actual name is Prissy.
“She came out to the mall for a meet and greet and she stole the show,” Chwastiak said. “In the original movie with Jim Carey, they used rescue dogs. I think it’s awesome we were able to bring Max to life with a rescue.”
Thanks to her performance as Max, Prissy found a home last Saturday.
“I saw a picture of her with the Grinch and that she needed a home,” said Jane Koburger. “She was perfect for my friend. I sent a picture to her daughter and they fell in love.”
Her new owner, Elaine Drake, lives in Waterman Village and said there are lots of dogs for her to play with. Prissy got the best treatment by riding on Drake’s lap and a down pillow to her new home.
Executive Director Doreen Barker said there are plenty more future happy endings at The Animal League with lots of adult dogs available, as well as border collie, German shepherd and catahoula puppies, which will reach adoption age just before Christmas.
